No catch. Getting videoSpunge going was hard work but also fun. It taps into other open resources – the contributors are acknowledged on the credits page. You should not have to pay for something like this – unless it adds lots more value in terms of features and stuff you find of significant value (hey, maybe there should be a Pro version?).
Just spread the word.
We need to count unique downloads but mainly we hope this site will develop into a YouTube fan community. Registration is really needed to enable community input into forums and such.
The site is in constant evolution. The blog page is intended to provide YouTube news and keep a healthy dialog going – RSS feeds will do the same by directly tapping into YouTube feeds– related Twitter tweets will be searched out and displayed. A lofty dream? This site could grow to provide real community value. It all depends on you.
No way! videoSpunge is standalone and free from any of this kind of activity.
Just fire up videoSpunge as many times as you need. Each videoSpunge object will download videos separately at the same time. Individual save-folders can be set for each object but remember that the last object you close has the final say on the favourite folders displayed next time you start.
After the first object starts, each new videoSpunge object started has an incremented number assigned to it to identify the instance. These numbers start incrementing from the first object, so if you open up say 3 objects and close one of them, the next object you open will be object 4 and so on. Clear as mud – just try it out and see.
A. This depends on the memory you have on your PC . But be sensible – you could probably crash your PC by trying to get in the Guinness Book of Records. More than a few objects does not make much sense.
videoSpunge downloads and views *.flv files – it will not list or view other file formats such as *.avi or *.mov files. There are other free applications on the Web that can convert formats for you. A quick Google search will provide lots of options.
videoSpunge will not extract audio from some hi-resolution format files. If your main interest is in extracting the audio you can usually achieve this by downloading one of the smaller video formats. Keep in mind that the audio track quality will vary – audio from the original mp3 source may be better. Experiment and be philosophical.
Installation of videoSpunge depends on .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 3.1. You should have these components already if you have Microsoft automatic updates turned on and there have been no issues with installing the updates, or if your PC was purchased recently.
The Installer can be set to detect and remedy missing components but initiating significant changes to your system is not really appropriate behaviour for a small application. videoSpunge is quite a small download at around 3 Mbytes – the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 download is considerably larger at around 300Mbytes. Large incidental downloads and lengthy installations delays would not amuse most people trying out videoSpunge.
To start with, if you have Microsoft automatic updates turned off you can try turning updates on. There is a good article with some useful links on auto-updates on Wikipedia. You can also manually download and install updates from Microsoft. You would normally need to set aside quite a bit of time for this – having someone technical on hand would not do any harm. The update process can go like a dream – or if there are issues with your PC, it can turn into a bad dream – however, any changes to your system should be automatically reversed if the install fails. If you feel up to it, bringing your PC up to date is a really good idea, not just so you can run the latest applications but also for any security fixes that have been made.
Good question. It depends. videoSpunge uses very robust web parsing and has flexible format handling. Change is a big part of the Web – every effort will be made to keep videoSpunge up with developments – again, be philosophical.
A. For some, the install process might seem to have too many steps (not really though) – but once past that, ClickOnce updates are completely painless. When you close videoSpunge, it checks the web site for updates. If there is an update available, next time you start videoSpunge we suggest you choose update (there may be some new goodies – there may be some bug-fixes). That is all there is to it.
A. Bored? How could that happen? In any case videoSpunge is a fully functional standalone application. The ClickOnce update feature is a bonus – videoSpunge will continue to run just fine on its own.
Use and enjoy videoSpunge. Twitter it - Facebook it -Tell your friends - Make suggestions in the forum - Recommended videos - Site improvements - New FAQ items.
If you have “Add YouTube ID to Filnename” turned on (in Select Save Folder view) you can right click on any file listed in the Folder Contents view to open the original video on the YouTube site. We recommend you always have the add-id option turned on. You can probably still find the video on YouTube by searching for it’s title on their site but it is easier to let videoSpunge do it for you.
Click on "My Account at the top of the page - select the profile tab - click upload avatar - browse your local files for an image - 90x90 pixels is about right but you will get the option to crop the image. The image shows up in forum posts.
